”Caring in a Changing Climate: Centering Carework in Climate Action
Abstract of the Talk: The global care crisis is being exacerbated by the global climate emergency, with interlocking impacts that threaten lives and livelihoods in all parts of the world. Climate breakdown is intensifying the work involved in caring for people, animals, plants, and places, especially so in low incomes areas of the Global South. Despite growing research on gender and climate change, the complex intersections of care work and climate impacts have been under-researched in academic and policy circles. In this webinar, Sherilyn MacGregor and Seema Arora-Jonsson present the main findings of a report they co-wrote for Oxfam that fills this knowledge gap. In addition to examining the connections between climate impacts and the amount, distribution, and conditions of unpaid care work, the report makes recommendations for climate action (i.e., policy, practice, investment) that is both care-sensitive and transformative of the existing care work inequalities that negatively affect the everyday lives of women and girls and are a major barrier to gender equality.
”Değişen Bir İklimde Bakım: İklim Eylemlerinde Bakım İşini Merkeze Almak
Konuşma Özeti: Bu etkinlikte Sherilyn MacGregor ve Seema Arora-Jonsson, Oxfam için birlikte hazırladıkları, iklim krizinin bakım emeği üzerindeki etkileri hakkındaki yeni raporlarının verilerini bizlerle paylaşıyor. Rapor, iklim değişikliğinin etkileri ile ücretsiz bakım işinin miktarı, dağılımı, ve koşulları arasındaki bağlantıları incelemekle birlikte, iklim eylemlerine ilişkin öneriler de sunuyor. Bu eylemlerin bakım işi konusunda duyarlı olması gerektiğine, kadınların ve kız çocuklarının gündelik hayatlarını olumsuz bir şekilde etkileyen ve cinsiyet eşitliğinin önünde engel teşkil eden, bakım işi kaynaklı eşitsizlikleri dönüştürmeyi hedeflemesi gerektiğine dikkat çekiyor.
